Desmond started a 5-year BTEC apprenticeship at Broughton-Tyrrel in 1984, attending South London College on day release, and qualified in 1989. He remained at BT, specialising in metalwork and implant work until 1992, when he moved on to PDS in Thatcham.
At PDS, he worked predominantly with implants and the early Procera system, producing titanium and alumina restorations.
He left PDS in 2001 to start Fusion Dental Laboratory with Eva Forst, with the aim of producing highly aesthetic work for the private sector.
After 25 years, they joined the ALS Group in November 2025 to continue this work.
